Anti-social behaviour measures
Surrey Police have applied to use Section 30 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act of
2003 after reported problems in the Ladymead and Slyfield areas related to 'Guildford
Cruise' events.
Section 30 sets out measures for officers to disperse groups where they believe
that members of the public have been intimidated, harassed, alarmed or distressed
as a result of the presence or behaviour of the groups.
Our statement
“We appreciate that Surrey Police wish to ensure community safety, and reduce anti-social
behaviour in the area. We do not condone the actions of any individuals who choose
to use their cars in an irresponsible manner. The Guildford Cruise is not a street
racing event, and is intended purely to provide a place for car modification enthusiasts
to meet.
The popularity of the Guildford Cruise shows the need for a local event, organised
in collaboration with local Police and land owners. We have had no contact from
Surrey Police regarding this recent dispersal measure, but would be keen on discussing
the possibility of holding the event at an alternative location, with approval from
local authorities.”
